Architecture and Urban Design are two careers that may look like the same although they are not. Even though, they have a lot in common, they are completely different things. It is true that there are similarities, like they both need an academic degree so not anyone can do this job; also, whoever study this careers needs to have a certain amount of creativity since you are always creating.
Another relationship with them is that they are made to be enjoyed by the people, the difference to this is that an architect designs a building or a house, which means for a specific person or family, while the urban designer, creates for anybody who will use the street. Another difference is that the architect works on a smaller scale, one construction at a time, while the urban designer works with at least ten blocks, also, an architect may design a building, a house, a hospital, a theater, a mall, and so on, while the urban designer only arranges the streets no matter what is built in that.
In the case of Caracas, it is with great sadness that I have to admit that we have very few masterpieces of constructions and many of them are old, and so we have very few new good constructions. This city is also badly designed in all senses, there is no order, no place is more important than other and so on. Therefore, I have to conclude saying that Caracas is a city that was not designed or planned by an urban designer and the architects just started throwing in buildings as they liked, not worrying for anything.
